Implant dentistry
represents in the words of Gordon Christensen, one
of Americas foremost dental practitioners and teachers, “The most significant advance
in Dentistry in the last 50 years”.
Essentially, dental Implants
are titanium “screws” placed
into the jaw- bone, which will fuse to the bone and
can be used to replace missing teeth either singly
e.g a missing front tooth, up to complete replacement
of all missing teeth.
Additionally, on a simpler basis, they can be used to stabilise and secure loose
dentures, particularly in the lower jaw. Routinely,
we find that about 70% of patients do not have adequate
bone support to provide optimal Implant based treatment.
Do Not Worry! This is a routine finding world wide
in Implant practice. We are able to rebuild both
the gum and bone where required, using up to date
techniques and materials as appropriate.
As with all types of comprehensive dentistry, the
success of the final outcome is dependant on in depth
planning and discussion before any treatment is carried
out. This will routinely involve discussions with
you, the patient, ourselves and our experienced technicians
who carry out the construction of the teeth, which
are fitted to the Implants. The most important aspect
of this is fully discussing and establishing what
your wishes and needs are. This drives all the treatment
planning.
Jeremy Harris, who carries out most of the Implant
treatment, initially became interested in Implant
dentistry in 1989 and has been placing and restoring
Implants since 1993. He has placed well over 1000
Implants and is trained and experienced in the various
surgical techniques required to rebuild gum and bone
tissue as needed. This compliments the advanced techniques involved in the provision of the replacement teeth.
The patient consultation,
treatment and sterilisation areas have all been
designed to provide this specialised treatment
to an optimal level. Presently, the Practice uses
various Implant systems, including ‘Anklyos’*
a German system which has a unique design which makes
the provision of
natural looking front teeth much more predictable than other systems. The prodigy
and Maestro systems from Biohorizons, an American company, are routinely used
for back teeth. Again, the
unique design features of these two systems provide for
optimal performance of Implants in the back of the
mouth.
We consider that we are
able to offer the most comprehensive, technically
advanced Implant treatment in the area. We have
12 years experience of placing Implants and 16
years if interest / training in the field as well
as a purpose designed and equipped facility to
provide the treatment. This is all backed up by
support from a trained and experienced support
team of nurses and administrative staff who are
all essential to the success of your treatment.
