Will
it hurt?
Implant dentistry is
carried out using a mixture of local anaesthetic
and sedation, depending on how you feel about
dentistry in general. You will expect some discomfort
and swelling after a procedure, which varies
greatly from person to person. Pre-operative
medication will be provided under supervision
before the treatment session commences and you
will leave the Practice equipped with the right
medication and advice to ensure that your treatment
with us is as comfortable as possible.
How long will it take?
Planning
your Implant treatment is the most crucial stage.
It is vital that we take all the right steps in planning
to create the smile that your are looking for. Planning
stages take around 3-5 weeks, and includes a ‘case
presentation’ where
we discuss every aspect of your treatment at length
before we begin. You are welcome to bring a family
member or friend along should you wish. Implant treatment
can vary from 4-6 months up to about 2 years for
complex cases, but remember, Implants are for ‘life’.
How long will it last?
The crowns,
bridges or dentures on top will probably
require replacing after 8-12 years. The
Implants, should on present evidence last
30 years or more and hopefully for life.
Will
I have “gaps” during
treatment?
This is obviously
a major concern for patients, particularly where
front teeth are involved. Proper planning allows
us to always provide adequate replacement of
missing or extracted teeth either by provisional
bridges fixed in place or by a removable denture.
We would advise that following any surgical procedures
it may not be physically possible to place temporary
removable
replacements for 7 days or so due to normal swelling
of tissues or to allow the area to begin to heal.
How much will it cost?
Dental
treatment in general and Implant dentistry in particular
varies widely in its complexity and extent. Every
case is individual. Before committing to any treatment,
it will be fully discussed with you and you will
receive a detailed Treatment Plan providing details
of the treatment, timescales and costs. We have extensive
experience in providing this treatment and the costs
only vary from our estimates if additional procedures
are required. These would be discussed with you prior
to treatment.
What are the alternatives?
Part
of the Treatment Planning, case presentation and
written plan will include a realistic discussion
and list of alternatives to the treatment being proposed.
We consider it a cornerstone of
our Practice
that you are entirely comfortable with all aspects, both clinical, time related
and finance before you commit. You need to be fully
informed and happy with what is being proposed before
beginning your treatment with us.
